search icon Yahoos Website Design The only reason I go to Yahoo is when I am looking for the link to Yahoo answers. And my understanding is that Yahoo Answers is one of Yahoo’s more popular services. I could be misinformed but regardless there seems to be a lot of people that use Yahoo Answers.

So why does Yahoo insist on hiding the link to Yahoo Answers at the bottom of the page?

Their search engine sucks, their e-mail sucks, the only service they have that I like is Yahoo Answers and that must scare the hell out of them because they are doing everything they can to hide the link.

boxers web designs Link BuyingThere is a lot of controversy over buying backlinks. Google for one really frowns on the practice because it makes their ranking system hard to administrate. Google even put the word out of they would be punishing people who buy links, but the fact is it’s really difficult to tell which links are natural and which are bought.

The truth of the matter is that Google is not the only search engine out there and a lot of webmasters are not trying to optimize their site for the search engines as much as they’re trying to make money with their websites. Quality back links can translate into money, a higher page rank, and more visitors; backlinks can generate traffic. If your purpose is to bring traffic, many of the sites that dropped after Google shifted its algorithm did not report a loss in traffic. So it is debatable whether it really hurts you to buy links or not.

It would also appear that buying links to be listed in a directory is not weighted as poorly as buying links from major site who id selling them. After all, you do want to be listed in the major directories under the relevant category.

So by buying backlinks you are able to add them quickly, it’s less time-consuming, you can build PageRank effectively, and it drives traffic to your website.

Of course there are an equal number of bad things that could happen, for example your website could get banned, de-indexed , links cost money, and there’s no guarantees of getting results.

At the end of the day it comes down to a personal decision whether you choose to buy links or not. Despite Google’s obvious dislike for the practice, many webmasters do use paid links as part of their marketing strategy.

Of course there’s also the budget, how much money do you have to spend on links? You need to include the timeframe in your budget estimates.

You want backlinks that are very visible on the page. Putting it near the top, highlighting it in some way, or paying for a featured link.

Your link also needs to be relevant to the content on your site.

You want to pay to get into a good neighborhood…. the page rank of the referrals will tell the story.

I did a post on making money online. I wanted to get a little more into some of the things you need to do but the post was getting so long I stoped before saying everything I wanted to say.

One of the things you need to understand is your competition and what your competition is doing.

There are all types of neat little tools you can use to do this, one of them is a plug-in for Firefox called SEO Quake and it is a pretty neat little plug-in.

As you search Google this tool can provide information such as:

• Age of a Domain
• Pages Indexed in Both Google & Yahoo
• Number of Other Sites Linking to a Domain

While understanding your competition is important something that is more important is having a good list of keywords.

Below is a list of a couple tools you can use to find keywords online for free.

I want to explain my problem with H1 tags.

Does it matter to me rather you use them or not?

Not At All, I Could Care Less.

But there are SEO’s out there making a living fixing Meta keyword tags, submitting sites to the search engines and adding header tags to pages.

I have to wonder when the last time any of those added one visitor to a website.
Yet they are the backbone to many SEO firms.

The SEO industry as a whole has gotten a bad name from SEO’s posting information on forums that’s outdated and no longer works or has never worked. And then others or the same SEO’s taking that information and selling it to clients as a service.

I’ve worked on many sites and have added and removed more header tags then I care to talk about, or for that fact could even try and remember. And I can honestly say that not one site visitor was added or lost from removing or adding header tags.

Header tags don’t make a difference when it comes to search engine rankings or at least on Google and at this moment they send more traffic than all the others combined.

I’ve never tested them on Yahoo or MSN so really have not got a clue about their affects on those search engines.

The thing I really love about word press are the number of plug-ins available. As I set up the web hosting blog there was a couple things I did to make it a little more SEO friendly.

First I added a couple plug-ins;

akismet
all-in-one-seo-pack
auto-social
easygravatars
global-translator
google-sitemap-generator
no-ping-wait
page-link-manager
pingcrawl
privacy-policy
seo-automatic-links
seo-image
sociable
statpress-reloaded
twitter-feed
twitter-tools
wp-auto-tagger
wp-smilies
yet-another-related-posts-plugin

Then I set up the Permalink Settings to show the date and post title.

And from there I added a couple sites to ping when a post is made.
