Everything I’m about to show you is based on the methods I use daily to make money. These methods can be applied to any online market.

Internet marketing is about targeting hungry buyers in places where the traffic is easy to find and will yield a return on our time and investment. Nothing I am about to show you is complex however, 90% of people marketing online fail to understand these concepts and therefore struggle to make money online.

The methods I am about to show you will work and I am not going to hold anything back however, you will need to take action to make it work.

Everything I am going to show you is based on real world experience. It’s been proven to make money for me over the years.

I am going to use an affiliate marketing site because it allows me to focus on the most important part of a successful online business, which is conversion and marketing.

I will use the website http://www.siliconewristband.org as an example site.

By targeting affiliate marketing, I do not have to worry about;

  1. Having a product of the of my own
  2. Customer support
  3. Merchant accounts
  4. Accepting payments online

Our goal is to convert as many visitors into buyers.

We will be doing this by focusing our attention on a very small percent of Google searches.

We need to understand how search engines work but even more importantly we need understand how the searchers search.

I would guess that about 80% of the searches that take place on the major search engines are for research. These are people who have no intention of purchasing anything online, they are looking for information. Therefore they will not be of any use to us and we will not target them in our search engine marketing.

I would also guess that about 30% are looking for information for a future purchase. These people who may or may not make a purchase in the future, we will not target them ether.

The smallest groups of searchers are the ones looking to purchase something right now. They understand what they are looking for, have the money and are ready to make a purchase.

These people will search by product names, model numbers, and will use terms like free shipping, discount, and bonus and so on and so on.

These are the people we want to target.

“Breathing Life Into That Old Web Design”

While the global economy has hurt many businesses, it has caused others to flourish. It could be said that 2009 is the year for web designers; in recent months business owners have trader money for traditional media and the ‘real world’ for that of the internet.

The internet is supposed to provide the ability to reach the world’s largest audience, at a fraction of the price spent to reach a much smaller audience, in the real world.

It all sounds good in theory but what’s really going on behind closed doors?

“Web Designing Gone Terribly Wrong”

Most web designers lack a real understanding of conversion and how it should be used, while most site owners are looking for a total redesign, when all they really need is to tweak their current design.

Going in and tweaking your current design allows you to see what’s working and what’s not. I’ve seen color changes in checkout buttons cause an increase in conversion.

Small tweaks can make big differences.

The problem is that most people do not understand the difference in an expense and an investment.
Your website should be an investment and not an expense, done correctly you should be able to get your money back within a month or two.

“Don’t Make Me Think”

Now days it’s more important than ever before to understand how your content, graphics and call to action are going to work with one another. A site visitor is looking for information and they want it quicker than ever before. If your site is the least bit confusing then they’ll be off to try out the competition.

A site visitor needs to have access to the most important information on your site without having to look for it. And you need to keep in mind that since most people will find your site through the search engines they can be entering the site on any page, so all your pages need to have information about your company on them.

“Content Is Not King”

In the online world there is an overload of information and too much of it can negatively affect your website. Everywhere we look there is more and more information, by the time we reach your website we could be to tired to care what it is you have to say.
It’s important to get to the point and not try and paint me a picture.

Don’t get me wrong, some sites need a total redesign but others just need a few tweaks.

If you’re selling items in the real world one of the most important things you can do is to get a nice package for your product. A nicely done package will draw attention and attract potential customers. If your package stands out from your competition it means more sales.

Your website works the same way in the online world. You need a website that stands out and lets your visitors know that you are not that same as the competition.

I guess in the real world if your graphics are good enough there is very little that needs to be said.

The ads pictured below prove that and shows that some big names in the electronic world believe this to be true as well.

But here’s the thing, it also works online.

If you’re willing to spend a few extra bucks you can get a web designer that can make your website speak without saying a word. Or you can nickel and dime your current web designer to death and hope for the best.
