The other day I was walking around the pool with my movie camera, filming the kids. The next thing I knew I had stepped a little too far to the right and both I and the camera were in the pool. Needless to say the movie camera was no longer any good, so I got online and started looking for new one.
There are lots of different features, however about the only thing I was looking for in addition to what was on my current camera was it being waterproof.
As I was about to buy the camera I realized that the one I was buying wasn’t as nice as the one I wanted, from another website. But the calls to action, the colors and everything else was so inviting and looked so easy to make the purchase that I was actually have to fight myself not to buy the camera.
This got me to thinking and I realized this isn’t the first time I’ve done this.
There are sites that I buy from every single day, that I know there are similar sites that offer a better product at a lower price, but I subconsciously convince myself that the more expensive site is quicker and easier to make the purchase from.
The sad truth is that as I sit here and think about it, the less expensive site with the better product is actually less complicated then the more expensive site. But the colors and flow of the more expensive site makes it appear easier to use.
The only thing that the more expensive website has that the better product website does not have is the products are laid out better and the colors are more lively, more vibrant, and more trusting. The less expensive website has a darker website that has a better product at a cheaper price.
The majority of the purchasing decisions we make are based on emotion and followed later by logic.
Did you know that 98% of website traffic that comes to most websites never take any form of action.
This is why we should constantly be fine tuning and tweaking our websites. Not weekly, yearly, or even daily…but hourly. We should always be trying to increase the number of people that take some form of action on our website.
