The problem is that we want to chase the dream of making a living online. Most people start with affiliate marketing however it doesn’t take long to realize that it’s not so easy to make things work.

The site has to be able to get traffic and convert traffic.

Building a website that is able to convert the traffic is an art unto itself and we’ve not even gotten into the ranking of the site.

The ranking is nothing more than hands on hard ass work coupled with an understanding of how the search engines work and most importantly how people search. I’ve seen many websites rank for some competitive keywords in the correct niche but want convert because they weren’t close enough to what people were searching for.
Other words, you can rank in the top ten for “website design” but if you are trying to sale templates you want make the sale. And there is no reason to even talk about selling templates and ranking for “custom website design”.

However, you can rank for “website design” and sell search engine optimization.
People are funny sometimes.

Anyway back to my point.

After a couple weeks of working hard and not being able to turn a profit we figure we need to change our business model.
We start charging people to market their site.

We get paid in advance and can either continue to look for new clients while trying to string old clients along or we can actually try and do right and use the client’s site as a learning experimental for our future clients.

Let me rephrase that because we are not doing right by our current clients. They are getting screwed no matter which direction we go in because we don’t have a clue what we are doing.

The current client begins getting upset so we take off to a forum to make a post for help.

Not knowing much about how the search engines work we post the clients address into the post http://www.carhiredalamanairportturkey.com .

Now, one day the client is going to do a search for that name and guess what they are going to find?

I want to explain my problem with H1 tags.

Does it matter to me rather you use them or not?

Not At All, I Could Care Less.

But there are SEO’s out there making a living fixing Meta keyword tags, submitting sites to the search engines and adding header tags to pages.

I have to wonder when the last time any of those added one visitor to a website.
Yet they are the backbone to many SEO firms.

The SEO industry as a whole has gotten a bad name from SEO’s posting information on forums that’s outdated and no longer works or has never worked. And then others or the same SEO’s taking that information and selling it to clients as a service.

I’ve worked on many sites and have added and removed more header tags then I care to talk about, or for that fact could even try and remember. And I can honestly say that not one site visitor was added or lost from removing or adding header tags.

Header tags don’t make a difference when it comes to search engine rankings or at least on Google and at this moment they send more traffic than all the others combined.

I’ve never tested them on Yahoo or MSN so really have not got a clue about their affects on those search engines.

I am always amazed at the number of web design companies that enter contest given by people that don’t have a clue about web design and compete for their little gold start that can be added to their web design.

To start with the little star, trophy or whatever else they are giving away always looks tacky. And if the web designer was worth two cents he could create his own.

These web awards are nothing more than a link schemes, created to get links back to the site giving out the award. If you take a moment you will notice that all of them can be clicked on and will then take you to another site.

In most cases the winners are chosen because they are able to send more traffic to the site than anyone else, or so they say. The truth is everyone is a winner because the site doing the competition wants the links and could care less about what the websites look like that are in the competition.

Web designers should know better and people should stay away from web design sites that are stupid enough to put these awards on their sites.

The Most Important Marketing Tool You Have

I find it sad the number of business that either do not have or do not have a clue how to use, their website. And what makes it worse is that a number of these businesses are actually web design companies.

I read an article today where an article writer for Small Business Newz Chris Crum wrote an article about what’s important when it comes to your website.

He listed 15 items and out of the 15 only about 5 really mattered and he left out the most important, which would be conversion. We’ve reached a point where a lot of people just want to say something, it doesn’t matter rather its correct or not.
