If you have a website that is ranked in the search engines for a search phrase that brings in 850,000 people every month, and if you sold just 1% of that 850,000 each month, you would be making 8,500 sales every month.

 

The problem that we all face is the time and effort needed to get a website ranking for that perfect keyword.

 

You see, while trying to rank your website in the top of the search engines (for that perfect keyword) the site isn't making money, off the work that is being performed.

 

Think About it Like This

 

Getting a website to rank in the top of the search engines can take months or even years.

 

And the work needs to be done daily...so you either have to pay someone to work on the site everyday or do it yourself.

 

In most cases the website owner gives up before ever reaping the benefits of ranking for that perfect keyword.

 

However, there is a way to start making money day 1 and at the same time decrease the amount of time it will take to rank for that perfect keyword.

Okay…I want to start by saying that a good friend of mine currently ranks for the term SEO design service. The term was recently used in a discussion at WPW.

My problem is not with SEO’s that build and design search engine friendly web designs. My problem is in the fact that I talk to people daily that are of the belief that all they need is an SEO friendly web design and it’s not the case. I spend hours trying to explain to people that the design is only a small aspect in getting a website to rank.

I lose websites daily to people that sale jobs based on search engine friendly designs being the only thing someone needs to make money online and I turn down jobs daily that people want optimized and believe it’s all they need.

So…my problem is not with any particular web design or SEO Company but more in wanting to educate people who are looking for a web design service.

And one last thing SEO design service would not be as good of a word to rank for as SEO design services.

But neither, SEO design service or SEO design services would be a competitive keyword nor would either get you very much traffic.

When looking at keywords and trying to figure out how competitive they are it’s not about the number of sites that show up in the results. Those are nothing more than the number of people that have either gotten a link to their site with those keywords in them or have used the keywords somewhere on their site.

When trying to figure out how competitive a keyword is we have to look at the top 20 search results and see things like age of the domain name, number of backlinks for the page that ranks, number of backlinks for the site that has those pages listed and things like that to determine how hard it would be to rank for that keyword.

Of course as I said in the beginning SEO design service does not get much traffic so it wouldn’t be a good one to go after in the first place however, if I decided to go after that keyword, from the information I’ve looked at it shouldn’t be hard to rank for.

I’ve heard a lot of SEO’s make the claim that being #1 in the search results isn’t a good thing.

I even spent 2 hours on the phone yesterday trying to convince a potential client that it is better to be #1 on page 1 then #1 on page 4.

The argument put fourth is that you will convert a higher percent of traffic by being on page four then being on page 1. However, the only reason someone would be looking on page 4 is if;

A. They couldn’t find what they were looking for on page 1, 2 or 3.
B. They are not really wanting to buy anything but rather looking for information.
C. They are the competition and are just checking out the competition.

The fact is that many SEO’s can’t rank you on page 1 so it is better to try and sale you on the illusion that page 4 rankings are better than page 1 rankings.

Take a look at the clickthrough as a % of the TOTAL clickthroughs for a search term:

#1: Will receive 42.3%
#2: Will receive 11.92%
#3: Will receive 8.44%
#4: Will receive 6.03%
#5: Will receive 4.86%
#6: Will receive 3.99%
#7: Will receive 3.37%
#8: Will receive 2.98%
#9: Will receive 2.83%
#10: Will receive 2.79%

Before you buy SEO from a company that is trying to sale you on how good it is to be on page 4, take a look at the above numbers and ask yourself how much traffic you will be missing out on by not being number 1 on page 1.
