Rotating banners; new fad or big mistake?

We really do live in an amazing time. I’m old enough to remember living without the Internet and without computers but still young enough to know what it’s like to be able to find information at my fingertips. The amount of information we are able to unlock is greater than at any other time in history.

Just in the last couple years we learned that scrolling text is a bad thing. If you’ve still got scrolling text on your website and you’re wondering why your website is not making you money, I’d be willing to bet it’s because you don’t have the first clue about what you’re doing. Heck…we left scrolling text years ago and have moved onto rotating banners. Maybe in the year 2012 we will learn that rotating banners have the same problem as scrolling text as both do the same thing, pull your attention away from the message.

You want to lightly push your visitor down the path you want them to go. Not shove them down a path you don’t want them to go.

It’s difficult to make something move on the website that adds to the design and doesn’t take away from the message.

Okay…so in the last month I’ve taken my kids to see three different movies all of which were in 3d. I am guessing that this is the wave of the future and before long about the only movie we will be able to see will be in 3d.

At the moment the 3d movies on DVD aren’t very good so you just about have to go to the movie theater to see a 3d movie. And if this is the way to the future for the movie industry then I am pretty sure that the web designs want be far behind.

Don’t get me wrong, we can do a lot with the 3d effects in website designs at the moment but I believe we will be seeing a lot better effects by this time next year.
