I’ve been making my living online, in the web design business, for the last eight years. It’s a difficult business and any web designer that says differently hasn’t done enough volume to understand the business. Some of the clients cross the line between sane and insane.
But, as the business owner, at the end of the day it’s my entire fault. Finding solutions to the problems that come up is my job. And refunding the clients money and asking them to move along doesn’t always work.
When things don’t go as well as planned it’s me that needs to look and figure out what’s broken and how it can be fixed, in such a way that it want break again. It’s a daunting job and one that causes me to feel like banging my head against the wall.
But none the less, it’s my job and one that I’ve chosen. And truth be known, at the end of the day I’ve never once asked God to take my business away and allow me to work for someone else. I am writing this post for myself, as I sit here feeling a little depressed and wondering in what direction I want to take my business.
If Ford can figure out how to build a car and remove the elements that require skilled labor then I should be able to build a website and remove them as well. By removing the problem with skilled labor I remove the problem of the time it takes to build a website as well as the problem with finding good employees. Finding good web designers and programmers has been a problem that I’ve fault with for the last eight years.
Of course the one problem that Ford doesn’t have to deal with is every project being different from the one before.
Guess it is going to require a good bit of thought to figure out a solution to my current problem.
