As a business owner that operates outside the US, I have to wonder what affect a law requiring employers to provide health insurance policies to employees, would do to current unemployment figures?

I also wonder why when you hire someone you are supposed to provide them with health insurance?

Why not life insurance?

After all, if they die they can’t come to work.

Why not auto insurance?

They have to drive to get to work.

As laws in the US become harder on business owners those business owners will have to look at outsourcing more work. Obama’s answer to this is to create laws that prevent companies with-in the US from outsource.

This means companies will have to increase their prices and pass it on to the consumer. Either way the consumer loses.

When you first add content to your website or blog you’ll notice that the content ranks really well, as long as your website or blog already has some link strength.

This happens because Google has a filter that gives a bonus to new content.

After 3 to 14 days you’ll notice the ranking starting to drop. This is because the fresh content filter goes away.

The way to keep that content at the top of the search results is by promoting it, getting sites to link to it.

Once the content is posted, it’s a matter of getting more link strength to the web page, you have to have more link strength than any other web page that is ranking for that keyword. When you lose the fresh content boost you can still hold the number one position with link strength.

If your website link structure is done correctly then each web page you add to the site becomes stronger than the one before and the new page makes the last one stronger.

Getting Links with Content

Powerful and emotional content that shows someone how to make their life more complete, better, easier, more productive, more profitable and happier will always get people linking to it but what to do if those links are not enough.

How to Get More Links

2. Comment on other blogs. Good comments spark interest. Answering questions in comments gets people to interact. Comment hunt searches blogs without nofollow tags, you can search for relevant blogs the url is http://www.commenthunt.com

3. Flickr – Flickr allows comments on photos taken by other people, pick suitable pics and simply write a comment.

4. Article Submission – Write articles and submit them to article sites.

5. Blog sites:
blogtopsites
blogtoplist
topblogging
blogcatalog
LSBlogs
Blogdigger
MyNewBlog
TopBlogArea
DigNow
TopBlogRateDir
Blogs.com
Blogifer
Skinny

BlogsOnTop

6. Show related posts in your blog entries. A blogger might find your site via one article but find a different one that they’re really interested in. Showing related posts can help them to be found more easily. If you’re using WordPress, you can use the related posts plugin here.

7. Use deep-linking. Deep-linking is when you link to older posts or pages in new posts or pages.

8. Do blog reviews. Lots of webmasters will link to you in exchange for reviewing their site.

9. Get a MyBlogLog account. MyBlogLog.com is like MySpace for bloggers.

10. Review products on your site. Most brands are trying desperately to get more exposure. If you provide a thorough, fair review of a company’s product, it might get linked to. For best results review products from new, up-and-coming companies.

11. Write testimonials for sites whose services have helped you. The testimonials themselves will often turn into links, and the webmasters will surely check out your site.

12. Write and submit a press release. Sites like PRWeb will publish them and link to you.

13. Write to help others. If you can help other people to find more success, you deserve a link from them.

14. Interview other bloggers. Many bloggers want to be famous! They will jump at the chance to be interviewed. Add a page to your blog that let’s people in your field know that you are interested in interviewing them. Tell them how to sign up and they will. I can almost guarantee that they’ll be linking back to the interview once it’s published.

15. Use forums and discussion boards.

16. Answer people’s questions on Yahoo! Answers. You are able to link to resources on other websites that will help answer people’s questions.

17. Submit to blog directories like BOTW.

18. Write controversial content. Sometimes you can really get people talking by criticizing famous people and brands.

19. Create a Wikipedia page about yourself or your business. Wikipedia links don’t count due to a “no follow” command, but you will gain some exposure that will surely lead to additional links.

20. Create a Squidoo page about yourself.

21. Start a few more blogs. You can create free blogs on Blogspot. Give your main blog a link once in a while. There isn’t any reason to make 1,000 links with it, just link once in a while. Maybe you could even update the blogs once a week. Who knows, you might make some money with those as well.

22. Link to your blog from your MySpace page.

23. Create a WordPress template. If a person uses your template they will be linking to you from every page of their site.

24. Donate sites to non-profit organizations. Non-profits usually get a lot of links from government sites, and so they would be ideal to design for. Make sure to include a “design donated by YourSite.com” at the bottom.

25. Setup blogs for other people. Make sure you include, “Designed by MySite.com” or “Inspired by MySite.com.” Help them to achieve success and their links will become a lot more valuable.

26. Build your own link structure.

m5 Link BuildingI’ve got a blog I’ve been playing with and trying to get to rank for a certain keyword. The blog has done really well and ranks in the top ten for most every post we make within minutes. Of course we try to focus on long tail keywords however; we do go after the competitive keywords from time to time and can hold our own there as well.

I made a post the other day for one of the keywords I wanted to rank for and immediately landed the #4 spot. However, when I checked back a couple days later we had dropped to page two; this bothered me enough to make a new post. The first thought was that in order to hold the rankings with the blog I would need to retarget the keywords I wanted to rank for about once a week.

But as I made the post I decided to link the new post to the old post using my keyword as the anchor text. Within an hour the old post had come back to the first page however, this time we moved up a spot to #3.

We have been able to hold onto the #3 spot for about two weeks now. I’ve seen a lot of bloggers that link back to old post in their articles. I do believe I understand why now and it’s something I plain to do more of in the very near future.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had any experience with this?

m8 Link BuildingI’ve been making a living online for the last six years but have just recently learned that some products are just so darn boring to write about, that no matter how good the content is no one is going to link to it.

And to add to this problem the number of people searching for the product makes it seem impossible to break 100 visitors per day. And to make even funnier the competition has been in business for years and all of them seem to be buying links.

To market a product like this causes one to have to think outside the box.

The design has to be fine tuned daily in hopes of converting every visitor that lands on the site. But there is still a problem; it’s almost imposable to compete with established sites that are buying links.

But done correctly social media sites can help to level the playing field.
For example building a squidoo page about the product and then bookmarking that page and linking it back to your main site has two benefits.

1. You’re able to rank a squidoo page faster and easier than a page on a new site or even on an older site in a lot of cases.

2. There is link love coming from the squidoo back to the main site.

Last I checked you’re able to build about 10 Squidoo pages per day and I can’t think of a reason not to build all ten. I saw a really good squidoo page the other day here http://www.squidoo.com/magic_of_making_up_now.

We’ve managed to level the playing field a little but not much and have gotten the site up to 100 per day everyday now but it’s still not enough to guarantee a sale a day. It’s time to increase the traffic a little.

Increase the Traffic

The first thing we need is a list of keywords and not just any keywords but some really good ones. We jump over to Google https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal click on website content and start entering our competitions websites in the search function.

We are then able to pick and choose the keywords that best describe the product we are trying to sale. A list of about 50 is a good start. We are now going to make a list of adjectives to add to those keywords. Other words, if one of my keywords is teddy bear I’ll end up with some keywords like this.

Teddy bear

Adorable teddy bear

Adventurous teddy bear

Cuddly teddy bear

Friendly teddy bear

The list goes on and on until we’ve turned our list of 50 into a list of 350. Now it’s time to start writing articles. The idea is to use the list we’ve made and target that keyword on each article. Other words, I’ll have an article about nothing but an adorable teddy bear when I finish.

Once we’ve gotten these articles together we want to put them online where they can start ranking.

One of the best ways to do this is to set up a blog on our current site. We are able to set the blog up so it pings the search engines every time we post one of our articles. Like the website the blog needs to be constantly tested and fine tuned to get the most out of it.

However, unlike the website the search engines will know about the articles the second we post them and in most cases they will be indexed in a matter of minutes.

Pushing It over the Edge

Did you know there are hundreds of free blogging sites all over the internet? And many of these are on social media sites. This means that we can create a blog on a social media site interact with the site members and drive those visitors from the social media site to our website or blog.

And once again there is more than one benefit from doing this.

1. We meet, interact and get to know people. We become their online friend and they are a presold customer the second they decide to leave the social media site and head to our site.

2. In lots of cases the social media blogs pump link juice into our site, helping it to rank in the search engines.

3. Most social media sites are trusted by the search engines and their blogs are easier to rank in the search engines than our own blogs.

Now when doing this we bookmark the social media blogs as well as our own blog and we submit them to the directories. The stronger they are the more juice they pass and the better they rank.

Done correctly there will be no need for link exchanges and this is just one of many ways to get both traffic and links to your site.
