I’ve been doing affiliate marketing for the last couple years and can honestly say that I’ve learned more in the last couple years doing affiliate marketing then I’ve learned my last 8 years as web designer or for that matter even an SEO.
The thing you learn about affiliate marketing is that it’s all about the traffic.
Think about it…
One of the first things I did was to realize that I wouldn’t be making all my money from one site, it was much easier to try and make one site pay one bill.
If I have a site that promotes a product that pays about $15 a sale and the site makes a sale every 2 days.
So… $15/2 days = $7.5 per day.
This means that site will make me $225.00 per month, that one site will pay one of my hosting expenses every month, one bill down.
Each site is built and designed to take care of one of my monthly expense.
Now I know that in order for that site to pay a $225.00 hosting bill the site needs to get 15 sales per month. Of course that is as long as I don’t pay for any advertising.
To make sure I am going to reach my goal every month I need to know the amount of traffic it takes for me to make one sale.
On most sites the conversion rate is 2%, which means I’ll need to send about 40 unique visitors to the merchant’s site every day. But that’s only one part of what I need to know, you see I need to know how much traffic I need on my site to send 40 to the merchants site.
And this is where studying and understanding website conversions comes in to play, the more visitors I can convert the less I’ll need to get to my site. If it’s a new site I’d try and set a goal of about 500 unique visitors per day for that site and start measuring and testing from there.
Of course this is traffic that comes from the search engines, when you get into social media marketing those numbers change drastically. I’ll no longer need hundreds of visitors per day but rather thousands.
I am sorry I’ve started rambling; the purpose of the post was to talk about video traffic and what I am going to be testing all next week.
So here is the current plan to do some video testing, if anyone has a better idea on how to test this please let me know.
To start with I am going to use Animoto.com to make about 50 videos per day. Reason being, it’s a simple drag and drop video makers and it’s both simple and easy to use. I am basically making slide show videos. The idea is to make videos really fast and turn out lots of them.
I’ll be placing the keyword I want to rank for in the title and description along with my websites address and a little information about my site. Something like Geeks on Steroids has the best information on making money online as well as reviews on traffic getting methods.
The producers name will also be my websites address.
Once again the idea is to do 50 videos per day, I want to know if this will work or not.
As I create the videos I’ll be using pixelpipe.com to add pipes for the videos. I will be creating accounts at 126 different social media networks were I will be submitting my videos.
I will then make a copy of every page my video appears on and will use www.pingdevice.com to ping the search engines and other networks to let them know I’ve just uploaded a new video. Once that’s done I’ll bookmark the videos on over 200 different bookmarketing sites as well as submit it to over 600 pligg sites.
Then I’ll go to html2rss.com and I’ll place my list of URL’s into this tool and turn them into RSS feeds. Once this is done I’ll go to rssmix.com and I’ll place all my RSS feeds into this program and I’ll end up with just one RSS feed.
I’ll then bookmark this new URL.
Now I’ll go to identi.ca this site has a PR8 and I’ll create an account and start making friends. Once I’ve hung out for awhile and made a couple post I’ll drop the link to my one RSS. Now…Google is going to find the link, follow it and index my videos.
I’ll be doing this for around about 50 different videos per day for the whole week next week. The idea is to take a new site and see how much traffic I can get to it using this method.
Any thoughts?
