Rotating banners; new fad or big mistake?

We really do live in an amazing time. I’m old enough to remember living without the Internet and without computers but still young enough to know what it’s like to be able to find information at my fingertips. The amount of information we are able to unlock is greater than at any other time in history.

Just in the last couple years we learned that scrolling text is a bad thing. If you’ve still got scrolling text on your website and you’re wondering why your website is not making you money, I’d be willing to bet it’s because you don’t have the first clue about what you’re doing. Heck…we left scrolling text years ago and have moved onto rotating banners. Maybe in the year 2012 we will learn that rotating banners have the same problem as scrolling text as both do the same thing, pull your attention away from the message.

You want to lightly push your visitor down the path you want them to go. Not shove them down a path you don’t want them to go.

It’s difficult to make something move on the website that adds to the design and doesn’t take away from the message.

Take a look at all the different templates such as: HTML, Flash, Dreamweaver, Frontpage, etc. As you browse through the templates keep in mind that all of them can be customized. When you are done, make a budget and choose the template that meets both your needs and your budget.

The color isn’t important!

No matter what template you choose the colors can be changed. If you find a template you like but you don’t like the colors keep in mind that those colors can be changed.
