Another Tit-Bit...

Geeks on Steroids did search engine optimization for a select group of clients several years ago but decided to get out of online marketing for other people and focus on our own sites. This year after many meeting and lots of talks we have decided to once again start offering search engine optimization.

BuddyMarks

I like buddyMarks it’s simple and easy to use and I can understand how you could get traffic from it. The thing that botthers me is that buddymarks is a lot like a directory, so I have to wonder, if I’ll get about as much traffic from it as I would get from a directory?

That would be as clost to zero as you can get.

Singing Up With The Bookmark Sites

To say it can be done quickly is some what misleading, I’ve spent the last hour just registering with all the sites and now I have to go back and figure out how to work the sites and set up my profile. I’m using the list here and it has a lot of sites that allow bookmarking but this is not the full list.

But it is the list the Bill used when he said that he took a brand new site and started getting 1,000’s of visitors a day as well as branded his business and had so many people wanting to advertise on the site that he didn’t know what to do, all in less then 7 days.

So this is the list I’m going to use to start with, if it works like he says then I will be expanding the list to try to get more bookmarking sites.

How Long Does It take To Get Traffic From Bookmarking Sites?

Inspired by Bill Hartzer, I have decided to do some testing. I’m going to start by signing up with some of the book marking sites and figuring out how they work. I’ll make a post about each site.

Then I’m going to use those sites to get traffic for 4 other sites including this one. I’m going to make all the stats public so everyone can see them and I’m going to add new post to each site everyday,

I’m using blogs on 3 of the sites and the fourth will be an online mail order bride site that I once owned but have since sold to a really nice guy I would like to try and help out.

The sites are listed below

Lawn Mowers

Social Bookmarking

Politics

Mail Order Brides

I’m using several in different areas to see how each area does.

Ok Let’s get started.

Orkut

Orkut is an Internet social network service run by Google and named after its creator, Google employee Orkut Büyükkökten.

It claims to be designed to help users meet new friends and maintain existing relationships. Similar to Friendster and MySpace, orkut goes a step further by permitting the creation of easy-to-setup simple forums (called “communities”) of users. Unlike some other social networks, orkut is invitation-only: users need to be invited by a member to join.

The funny part about Orkut is that it has become a place for Brazilians and most people in the US don’t even know it exists.

Social Bookmarking

Social Bookmarking as taken our ability to interact with others on the web to a new level. With Social Bookmarking we are able to store our bookmarks online and share them with others.

At this time the The social bookmarking market is dominated by Digg, del.icio.us and StumbleUpon.

Getting on the front page of Digg can bring thousands of visitors to your site immediately. To get on the front page of Digg you need around 50 votes in less then 24 hours.

These are votes for an article or blog post that you have written.

These articles need catchy titles, up to the date information and a benefit for the end user.

You can also gain thousands of visitors my commenting on someone else’s article and linking back to your own site.

But make sure the link is justified because it is made up of a community of users and feeling the wrath of that many users would not be fun.
