Another Tit-Bit...

Geeks on Steroids did search engine optimization for a select group of clients several years ago but decided to get out of online marketing for other people and focus on our own sites. This year after many meeting and lots of talks we have decided to once again start offering search engine optimization.

Increasing Conversion

I was sitting here today thinking about the 3 second rule. That’s how long I’ve got to convince a potential client to stay on my site.

I was thinking about all the different ways to do this and decided that the best way is creating a separate page for every product being sold on a site.

By doing this I’m able to give the searcher exactly what he’s searching for.

Let’s say I’m selling car parts.

>Now I’m going to take one page of my site and create the page for one of my parts, let’s say a custom hood for a 1990 Ford Mustang.

I’m going to name the page 1990 Ford Mustang Custom Hood and use the text in my title and as the first line of text. Maybe make it plural in the text like “Custom 1990 Ford Mustang Hoods” and place it in an h1 tag.

It should be fairly easy to rank for “Custom 1990 Ford Mustang Hoods” and when the visitor clicks on my site he/she will know they are on the right page because the 1st line of text will match what they searched on.

Matching the search exactly, I don’t see any reason to place any links to any of my other products on this page. All I want to do is sell him a 1990 Ford Mustang Hood.

I’ll use an h2 tag under my h1 tag to explain to him how happy he’s going to be and what this new hood can do for him.

Then I’ll add a couple pictures of the hood. A little larger then normal and nice clean looking picture.

Ill also make my font clean and easy to read and maybe a little larger then normal.

The pictures are from the shopping cart so the call to action is right there with the shopping cart.

I don’t want to confuse him with anything else; all I want to do is guide him into making the purchase for this one product.

The home page would link out to all my products and if you got to the home page everything would be normal.

But every product on the site would have its own page that would be set up for selling that one product.

The conversion should be a lot higher then normal because the traffic is 100% targeted for that page.

Learning From Made For AdSense Sites

style=”font-size: 12pt”>“Learn From The AdSense Sites” style=”font-size: 12pt” />

Have you ever noticed that when you do a search for a non-competitive keyword a lot of times you get a site full of ads?

Chances are those sites are using AdSense or a similar program to make money off the clicks you make on those sites.

“Here’s what a lot of them do.”

They go after keywords that are not competitive and easy to rank for. A lot of them will also use Google AdWords to bid on the keywords and they will show up on the right side of the search results.

They then use the text on the page to target the high paying keywords so when you click on the ad they make a dollar or two and pay very little if anything for the click.

This is how they make their living. The idea is that most businesses are not smart enough to go after the lower paying keywords.

“How To Get Traffic To Your Website”

I know a lot of people like to go after the competitive keywords and I’m not saying that’s a bad thing. But competitive keywords can take from 3 months to a year to get your site to rank.

If you’re using PPC you could be paying big money for clicks that you could get on more targeted keywords for a lot less.

Although it is also good to rank your sites for competitive keywords, while you’re waiting, going after non-competitive keywords can give a big boost to your traffic.

A lot of the tools like the Overture’s tool and the Google AdWord keyword tool is being used by everyone. This can make those keywords become competitive.

“Keywords”

The long tail would be going after “Tennessee Web Designers” rather than going after “Web Designers” it’s not going after “Tennessee Web Designers living in Colombia”

No one is going to search for the last one.

Overture and Google AdWords tools are good for putting together a list of keywords.

These tools can be found at

Google

Overture has different countries

USA (English)
style=”font-size: 12pt”

Australia (English)
style=”font-size: 12pt”

Denmark (Danish)
style=”font-size: 12pt”

Germany (German)
style=”font-size: 12pt”

France (French)
style=”font-size: 12pt”

Great Britain (English)
style=”font-size: 12pt”

Italy (Italian)
style=”font-size: 12pt”

Netherlands (Dutch)
style=”font-size: 12pt”

Austria (Germany)
style=”font-size: 12pt”

Switzerland (German and French)
style=”font-size: 12pt”

Spain (Spanish)
style=”font-size: 12pt”

These tools are nice but once you get your keywords making a couple changes will let you become more original and cut out the competition.

For Example

1. Using keywords in their plural forum as well as their singular forum.

2. The English language is a little crazy and we found that a lot of words were spelled differently but had the same meaning.

3. One of the best methods we used on accident on one of the Spanish sites when one of the guys misspelled the name of an American movie that had just come out.

We got a ton of traffic. Guess a lot of other people misspelled the same word and we easily ranked #1 for it.

“More On Finding The Best Keywords”

You can also use Thesaurus style=”font-size: 12pt” where you’re able to enter a keyword and get a list of other keywords that mean the same thing.

We also have a rather large list of words we can fit in with a keyword.

Let’s say my keyword is “website design” my list would work like this but keep in mind it would work with almost any keyword we came up with.

Affordable website design
Better website design
Cheap website design
Common website design
Compare website design
Complete website design
Economical website design
Excellent website design
Expert website design
General website design
Good website design
Flawless website design

The list goes on and on I think they have around 150 words they are using now at the office.

There are a lot of things you can do when trying to find keywords no one else is using like abbreviations, opposites and on and on.

“Now that you have your list together”

Let’s say one of my keywords is “custom website design”, I want to build a page that talks about nothing else except custom website design.

If my keyword is “fast green widgets” then I want all my text on the page to be about fast green widgets, I don’t want anything about blue widgets or orange widgets.

If you create a list with 5,000 keywords. Create a web page for each of those keywords then you now have 5,000 more places for people to find you.

If you get one visitor per day from each keyword then you have 5,000 additional visitors per day to your site.

Done right the pages should be very easy to get ranked and you should see an increase in traffic within a week or two.

You’ll have to point a couple links towards the page with the correct anchor text but that’s nothing when compared to adding 1000’s of links to rank for the more competitive keywords.

Google, click fraud and the law

They want leave Google alone.

If I choose to run ads on any site it is up to me to remove those ads if I’m not making money with them. Let’s say I run an ad and spend $1,000.00 and make back $3,000.00.

That’s a good return on investment and I’m happy with that. If someone comes up to me and says that $300.00 of that was fraud and I should not have to pay it then my next decision would be rather or not I want to run the ads again.

The answer would be yes. I’m making $2,000.00 for every thousand.

Would I waste the time to sue the company that just helped me make $2,000.00? No.

In Little Rock these people want to continue to sue Google and are upset because someone asked them to show proof of the money they lost.

Fifty-one plaintiffs have raised objections, mostly smaller advertisers who say the deal unfairly shifts to them the burden of proving their losses and that they don’t have the resources to easily pursue their claims.

This proves they don’t even know if they lost money or not. They have a failed business model because of the lack of energy they are willing to put into their business and have decided the best and easiest way to make a living is to find someone successful and sue them.

If your PPC campaign is making you money then continue, if not find another way, it’s that simple.

Plaintiffs say Google has not done enough to stop click fraud, which drives up advertisers’ bills by falsely indicating the number of Web users who have “clicked” on an Internet ad to seek more information about a product.

How the heck would they know how much Google has or has not done, they don’t even know their on stats and are unable to determine a good click from a bad click.

If their not making money it’s because of a lack of research and knowledge on their part. Google tries to stop most click fraud but some may get by. It’s the sites owners’ job to determine rather or not to continue with the ads.

It’s sad when the only way to succeed in business is to sue someone else.

7 Reasons You Need To Blog For Your Business

Article Title: 7 Reasons You Need To Blog For Your Business Author: Deanna Mascle If you are not blogging for your business then you should be. While many people simply dismiss blogging because of its description as a web diary they are missing a lot of traffic and revenue generating opportunities every day. Are you one of those missing out? In truth blogs are much more than a simple web diary. They are actually a content management system and/or an easy web site template. Blogging software allows you to begin posting your content to the Internet in minutes and when you harness that ability with an RSS feed you have a powerful traffic magnet. I have come up with 7 reasons why every business should have a blog and RSS feed. 1. Publishing a regularly updated blog helps you keep in touch with your existing audience and/or customer base. You can publish updates, news, or thoughts in your blog as well as answer questions. 2. A blog can help you attract new customers. Your blog entries (posts or articles) will become fodder for the search engines and will attract new visitors. If your blog answers the visitors question or attracts their interest you have just found another qualified lead. 3. Blogs and RSS feeds often rank higher in search engines than traditional web sites. Search engines love blogs and RSS feeds. If you design your blog properly then every time you update it the search engines are notified. Even if you don’t regularly ping most search engines will revisit blogs more frequently. Plus the very organization of a blog lends itself to spidering and good search engine ranking. 4. Blogs can help you establish or build your reputation in a particular field. As your blog grows you will demonstrate your knowledge in your chosen niche. 5. Blogs and RSS feeds are good revenue streams. You can add pay-per-click ads, affiliate ads, or sell ad space on your blogs. In fact, many PPC companies also provide the ability to add PPC to your RSS feeds. 6. Blogs are great ways to generate leads. Even if you don’t want to put any advertising on your blog you can use it to promote or capture leads for your own programs. These are great leads as the fact that they came from your blog means they are already interested in your topic and predisposed to your individual message. 7. Creating your own blog is the easiest way to establish a presence on the Internet and creating an RSS feed is even easier. In fact, it is also the cheapest way to get started on the Internet as there are a number of free blogging sites out there. I started out with http://blogger.com and usually recommend them but have heard others point to several other top blogging sites as well. The blogging software that I now use is WordPress and also happens to be free. In fact, most web hosts now offer WordPress (or other free blogging software) as a free site add-on through Fantastico. Installing WordPress from scratch is quick and easy but Fantastico makes it even easier. Blogs created at Blogger have an RSS feed created for them and WordPress also creates feeds in several variations automatically. As you can see there are several benefits to starting your own blog and RSS feed. If you can count that many benefits from an Internet marketing technique that is also free and easy then you are foolish not to begin using it for yourself. Directory Submission

Article Title: Directory Submission
Author: Elizabeth Ramer

If you’re anything like me, you spend hours a week submitting
your website to directories, and writing emails to exchange
links. And, if you’re like me, you hate every second of it and
you look for an easy way out at every turn.

Unfortunately, there is no real easy way out – especially if
you want to do it right, but I do have a couple of ideas to
make your submission and exchange life easier.

There is nothing like spending an afternoon finding
directories, finding your specific category and then submitting
your website. It’s a lot of work before you even get to the
submission process, and by then exhaustion sets in, not to
mention being frustrated by the whole process.

There are any numbers of directory lists out there, but
http://info.vilesilencer.com/main.php?rock=seo-friendly.php
keeps a close watch on a couple of hundred directories. He
maintains an Excel spreadsheet of general and niche directories
(some paid, some free) that you can download and use to keep
track of your directory submissions. All directories are SEO
friendly. This method is manual. Submission services are also
offered.

At http://4th-media.com/submission you create a profile on the
4th Media website with your website details: Title, URL, and
Description. If paid, you can have up to 10 different
descriptions for a particular site. He offers several packages:
free: do it yourself, paid: do it yourself, and they also have a
submission service. There are mostly paid directories, some are
free, and most are seo-friendly.

A third directory submission solution, and my favorite, is the
Directory Submitter -
https://paydotcom.com/r/2976/flaservice1/208701/

I found the Directory Submitter after using the above 2
solutions (and I still use them) but I just needed something to
give me a feeling of accomplishment, so I started looking for an
automated solution. I came across several but was unhappy with
my results.

I found the Directory Submitter, checked out the trial version
and decided to spend the money on the full version. It was
money well spent.

The Directory Submitter works right from your desktop and is
super easy to use. The hardest part is loading your profiles.
Once you’ve done this, and then you are good to go. Like any
software, you do have to get used to it, but this doesn’t take
long, and then you’ll fly through submissions. On my second
night using the software, I submitted a website to 30
directories. I was truly impressed. It normally takes me weeks
get through 10 submissions.

The Directory Submitter isn’t completely automated: sorry
folks, but it won’t do it all. You still have to decide the
best category your site belongs in, you’ll still need to
manually type in any “captcha” images you come across. With any
method of directory submission you use, you should always read
the submission guidelines, for a better chance of being
accepted.
