For Credibility Reasons, I’ll Tell You a Little About Myself.
My name is Janeth Duque – I am the owner of Geeks On Steroids, a Colombian web design company that has made its total living online for the last seven years. I’ve been described by many as one of the Internet’s top Web Designers and Marketers. And unlike most people selling internet services I make my total living online. I put my websites to the test each and every day. Another words, I build custom designed one of a kind websites for companies in the US and UK while operating and living in a third world country. My only source of contact is by way of the internet and my websites.
Being in a third world country I have to face complications that most marketers are not even aware exist. And this helps me to be the best at what I do, Internet Marketing and Website Design.
I’ve taught myself about the Internet, English and how to make money online. When I say I started with no money, I mean I was eating beans for lunch and skipped breakfast and dinner and didn’t even know what a computer looked like, much less how to make money with one.
I’ve had to teach myself without the benefits of local gurus, designers, programmers, marketers or anyone in the country that has ever thought of making a living online. I’ve had to spend days and days with the government trying to explain where I was getting $10,000.00 and $15,000.00 a month from. And I have had to work around bank limitations and internet connections.
So please don’t tell me it’s to hard!
Starting With Nothing
I live in the center of Colombia S.A.. The weather averages 75 degrees year round. We are in the coffee area of Colombia. If you have drank Colombian Coffee than it most likely came from this area. Colombia is a much laid back easy going country.
While I was growing up my family had very little money. I got my first job when I was 6 years old. The job was picking coffee with my mother to help support the family. At the age of 15 my mother went to Bogota to work and my father sold our house. After the sale of the house he decided to move back in with his mother. I had two younger brothers and two younger sisters. My grandmother was unable to take all of us, so my sister and I were put out into the streets of Montenegro.
Luckily I had friends from school and was able to find a home for my sister. I bounced around from friend to friend while finishing high school.
I do not want to bore you too much with my life, I will skip to the start of my Internet life.
I had heard about the Internet but knew nothing at all about computers and had no idea how anyone could possibly earn money online.
The whole concept seemed strange and impossible to me.
As I grew older
I was able to find occasional jobs here and there but nothing with a future. I felt a strong desire for more and a need to improve my life, but had no idea how to go about getting what I wanted.
After a great deal of thought, it seemed that the first step to achieve my goal would be to learn English. I began by listening to songs and reading and writing letters in English. At the same time, I started learning a bit about computers and learned how to send my first emails.
I spent the next twelve months studying English and learning more about computers as well as deciding it was time to start an online business. A friend loaned me one of her computers and my mother showed her faith in me by putting up her home for collateral to help me get my first credit card.
Since gold in my country was much cheaper than in other parts of the world, I decided to make my first business a jewelry website. In addition, another friend who owned a jewelry store said I would not have to pay for the jewelry until after I was paid by the customer. I built my first website using Yahoo Site Builders and realized the limitations of these types of programs.
Once my site was online
I spent $500 in less than a week on Google AdWords which maxed out my credit card. I, of course, assumed I would get orders that would more than cover this $500 but I did not make even one sale! And thinking about all the debts I had incurred made me start to worry.
I decided it was time to get a little aggressive with my internet marketing and I begin to read and try everything I ran across online. There is absolutely nothing I’ve not tried and while most of it didn’t work some of it did.
I sold my first necklace for $1,500.00 but found out shortly after that, that it was against the law to ship any type of gold products out of the country. I refunded the money closed the website down and started to cry.
Rent was due, a credit card bill had just shown up at the house and I was unemployed in a country where there are no jobs. I decided that since there was no food in the refrigerator and everyone in my family had barely enough food for themselves that this was not the time to give up. I pulled myself together spent the last $10.00 I had on another domain name called a hosting company and begged for one month of free hosting and started a web design business.
I put everything I had learned in marketing the jewelry business into marketing the web design business and went 3 days without sleep. I sold my first web design, finished and collected the money all with-in 7 days.
I’ve been building websites for the last 7 years and currently employ 30 full time employees.
Making Money Online
A couple years ago I made over $10,000.00 a month with AdSense type ads being sold by Danny Wirken, the owner of 444.net. I made a steady $10,000.00 per month with Danny for a little over a year.
Most recently I’ve started affiliate marketing and have gotten my first website to do over $200.00 per day before the end of my second month. This is just one of many projects I spend my spare time with.
The site you are on now is my main site. Internet marketing and website design.
I’ve supported my family and many others with my web design business for the last seven years and I’ve helped companies do over $150,000.00 per month with their websites.
God’s been good to me and I think I might be his favorite.
