I am really big on keywords and lots of them. A new site is really hard to get traffic to, by building a really good keyword list you’re able to go after the long tail keywords and drive traffic to the site almost immediately.

Let’s take a website about cars. It would take us years to rank a new site for a keyword like “car” and if were selling V.W part’s, most of the traffic coming for that keyword would be totally useless. How many people looking for V.W parts are going to search for the keyword cars? However if we build a page about a 1968 left hand V.W door, we might only get a couple clicks a week but it will be from someone looking for the product we are selling. And the chance of making the sell increase by 100%. And let us not forget that we can rank for that keyword in a couple days.

If we add another couple 1,000 keywords to that list then we are now ranking for a couple thousand keywords and driving a couple hundred visitors a week to our site. The more keywords we have the more traffic we are able to get and the more money we are able to make.    

We build and set up landing pages for each keyword on the site. Each landing page will bring in its own traffic and have its own linking structure and be optimized for the search engines. Now let’s go back to wanting to rank for the keyword car. Now that we have 20,000 pages on the site with their own linking structure and each linking back to the home page with the anchor text car it becomes a lot easier to rank for the keyword car.
