The SEO community went after Charles Preston pretty hard over the weekend. I went after Verified SEO, (his main site) only to see if I could rank above all the other SEO’s that were targeting that name. Last time I checked I was #1.
Charles Preston’s heart very well could have been in the right place but the fact that he owns an SEO service and wanted access to other SEO’s clients seem a bit bothersome to me. But then that’s just me.
But this post is not really about Charles Preston, it is more about the SEO community as a whole.
The SEO industry has been plagued for years with a lack of consistency and understanding of SEO terms and definitions.
Forums are full of inaccurate information as SEO’s try to understand the industry were they sell their services.
I find it funny the number of SEO’s that spend their days on forums posting about search engine optimization yet, their sites are no were to be found in the search engines.
I don’t know the answer to the problem that plagues the SEO community; I do agree that Charles Preston is not the answer, unless he is willing to get rid of his SEO business.
But at the same time I am equally sure that Edward Lewis isn’t the answer.

Ah yes there was a bit of bloodlust over the issue, but does that mean the same if a large industry group like SEMPO tried they would experience such fear and aggression?
i’m so proud you overtook verifiedseo.com on their own term. brava!
Hi David,
It seems that if you are one of the people that make the noise you can do pretty much anything you want.
Hi Alex,
It was a fairly easy thing to rank for. I was expecting it to be a little hard to get the site to rank.

People, “Charles Preston tried to con the whole SEO industry” this is a false statement. I have very clearly stated what I was trying to do over on Kim’s blog. Misguided? Yes. Con? No. Please remove the libel and be factual. I have not conned anyone nor did I attempt to do so. It’s been two weeks now, other bloggers have removed false content and I assume you are an ethical person so I would expect you to do the right thing as well. Thank you.

Janeth,
Thank you for updating your post. No, I don’t think Edward Lewis is the answer either. Maybe a Yelp type system for SEO? I don’t know, at this point, thinking about it makes my head hurt.
