I did a post a while back that got some SEO’s upset when I expressed my opinion of why I thought onsite search engine optimization was dead. My reasons were that I felt that new CMS software eliminated the need for onsite optimization.

However, the other day I watched a video with Mike McDonald and Greg Jarboe were Greg made the statement that a search on YouTube is a search and a search on FaceBook is a search and so on.

I don’t believe that search engine optimization is dead but I do believe that it has changed. To truly optimize a website for the search engines you have to use the social media sites, not for ranking in Google but for ranking in those social media sites.

Other words, I believe search engine optimization should include making a website rank in the social media sites as well as the search engines. If it’s a popular social media site that gets a lot of traffic then we should be looking out how to optimize our client’s information to show up in that search engine.
