People search the web for 1 of 3 reasonsGia by WarrenLouw 211x300 No One Cares About the Look & Feel of Your Website Design

1. For Information

2. To Purchase a Product

3. To Be Entertained

They could care less about the look and feel of the site that is going to supply that need. However, the web design matters but not in the way most people think.
A good web design should be like a street light, it guides us down the path we want to go but does so without us notching its presence. And a poorly designed website is like a street light that just lost power, we notice the darkness more than ever because at one time there was light.

The reason a poorly designed website stands out is because we have a desire to find information, a solution to a problem and an answer to a question but the website is blocking us. Poorly thought out navigation, blinking text, scrolling text, colors that distract us and hurt our eyes, pages buried deep inside the site, poorly written text, hard to read text and the list goes on and on, all these things affect our ability to find what we are looking for.

It starts with just one decision that adds one thing to the website that is not needed. The little carton guy, you know the one sitting at his desk typing. I think he is pretty cool looking and want him added into my website design.

He serves no purpose.

His moving makes it difficult to concentrate on the purpose of the site.

While I might think he is cool chances are my website visitors want. And once we get started it seems we need to continue this downward trend.

Can we make the phone number flash in the header like a neon light in a cheap beer joint?

We’ve now taking our web design from being a street light that shines and guides to being a neon sign that distracts and blinds.

I care about me, not about your website or even your company, entertain me, inform me and give me what I need. YouTube is successful because people are able to find videos that entertain them and the blend it guy is successful because he blends things up in a blender and we find that entertaining. Have the same guy do a video on how blenders are made and we will be bored out of our minds.

Other words, build a website that provides your audience with the information they are looking for and they will become a friend. Do it over and over again and they will become a fan, they will tell their friends about you and truly care about you.

Until you stop providing what it is they are looking for.

The one thing all people enjoy is talking about themselves, their life and what they need. If you build a website for them that services their needs, answers their question and is able to entertain them they will become your friend.

If you build a website that confuses them and is all about you and your business, then they will move on to your competition.

Everything on the website should be with the goal of making a friend and guiding that friend down the path to becoming a client. Once the site is finished you should go back and see what can be removed, not added.
