It seems now days that no matter where I turn, I see some new search engine optimization or marketing guru trying to sell me some snake oil. And now I’ve got someone
telling me that I don’t want millions of website visitors or a top ranking in the search engines. She goes on the to tell me that despite all the hype it does not matter how high my website ranks or how many people click to visit my website, those are all just myths.
Rebecca Murtagh, the internet marketing success master.

I hate to disappoint Rebecca, but it does matter how high your website ranks in the search engines.
I have been making my living online for the last eight years and I can tell you that it matters whether you rank number one or number three in the search engines. It matters rather you are on page one or page fifty on the search engines.
Common sense says that you will get more website visitors if you rank number 1 verses ranking at number 500 and common sense says that getting 1,000 web visitors per day is better than getting 1 visitor per month.
But I see that common sense escapes people like Rebecca and others I have seen going around saying that it does not matter where you rank in the search engines.
It does make sense that if I am unable to rank your website highly in the search engines that I would try and explain to you why you don’t need to rank highly in the search engines. My belief is that Rebecca and others like her are incapable of doing the job they were hired to do and therefore have tried to change the rules and explain why it’s better for their client not to rank.
Changing the rules may work good Rebecca and others like her but it’s really going to suck for her clients and people that have hired her to do a job.
