Okay, we first need to understand that just because you are dealing with a company does not mean that you would be dealing with a maze of people. In most cases you would have a point of contact and unlike a one man team; you could go to a higher authority, if the need arose.

When hiring a one man SEO or even a full SEO company you need to make sure they have the skills or access to the skills that allows them to handle any complication that might come up.

Keep in mind that there is only so much one person can do and be good at it.

And that brings up the next question; will the SEO Company or the SEO guy be outsourcing any of the work? Not that it’s a problem, however billing you in addition to what you are already paying, might be.

Either way, you don’t want to be surprised with it later.

The Services Being Performed

You need to know and understand the services that are being performed. Onsite SEO is good for non-competitive keywords. Offsite SEO is good for competitive keywords.

If dealing with a one man SEO you need to know that he will be available when you need him. He could very well spend his days sleeping and his nights working. Or an emergency could arise and he’s homeschooling the kids.

Also keep in mind that every person has limitations. And a single person can only spend so much time on each account. And they’ll also be marketing their own sites, answering the phone, taking care of problems and still have time for a personal life.

The less money and SEO charges the more clients he’ll need.

If my living expenses are $3,000.00 per month and I am charging you $100.00, then how many other clients do I have to have to break even?

And let’s not forget that it’s just for this month, last month I had to have signed another 300 and next month I’ll have to sign another 300.

So just how much time do they really have to spend on your site?

If money is a problem then you’re best option is to do the work yourself. These forums are great for learning how.

You’ve either got to invest lots of time or lots of money. Little of either will get you little in return.
