A good SEO has an understanding of how the search engines work and enough things to work on not to have to cold call. If they have to start cold calling there is a
good chance that they lack the understanding of getting traffic to a website and are not good at their job.
There are a lot of SEO companies that cold call for customers, it’s because they either can’t get the traffic to their sites or can’t convert the traffic they are getting. Either way it’s a clear lack of understanding of how the internet works.
I’ve been spammed and cold called for SEO more times than I care to remember.
Unknowing People Get Suckered Into Bad SEO Services
There are a lot of people that know nothing about SEO or for that matter have a clue about how to make a living online. They are easily sucked in by so called SEO’s because these people will take any type of ranking, but any ranking isn’t good. Traffic and rankings need to come in the form of keywords that people are actually searching for, when looking for the particular item that site is trying to sale.
By cold calling, SEO’s are able to find customers that know nothing about SEO and stand a better chance of selling to these people without having to compete online with real SEO’s.
Is Cold Calling Effective For Finding SEO Clients?
I am sure it is, there are people that can be talked into purchasing anything.
But is it ethical?
I don’t think so.
An SEO should understand and know how to make a living online. The service he is offering should be one he has in place for himself.
At one time we called some of the top SEO companies and found that most of the ones ranking in the top of the search engines are not excepting any more clients.
Their top rankings have gotten them more clients then they are currently able to handle. The reason this happens is because a real SEO has to be trained, you can’t hire someone off the street and call them and SEO.
A real SEO that is really ranking and making a living online understands this. The guy cold calling doesn’t understand how to get his own site to rank, much less yours and is more interested in hiring more cold callers than he is in ranking his own site, much less yours.
Understanding Cold Calling
Most people that do cold calling never make it a month, it’s not easy making 50+ cold calls per day. You have to have the ability to ignore personally abusive comments and brush off responses.
And let’s not forget about the problems these people have in just getting past the receptionist, who gets so many cold calls per day she can recognize a cold caller by the sound of their voice.
Rater you’re a cold caller or a web marker the one thing you learn is that it’s all about building relationships.
An internet marketer builds that relationship with a kick ass website and an online presence. An offline cold caller builds that relationship with a couple telephone calls.

Since SEO is still an emerging field, there is no “governing body”, and the rules sometimes change. A good SEO professional understands these changing rules, and knows how to properly apply them.
