I’m amazed at the number of companies that are willing to cut corners to save a buck when it comes to their web design. They shop around for the cheapest price and fail to understand that their web design could be one of the most important decisions they’ll make this year.
I’m not talking about the fact that your website has less than 3 seconds to grab the attention of your site visitor before he’s off to another site. Yes, web servers are worst than channel servers.
I’m talking about that first impression.
Your company’s image is made or lost within seconds of someone landing on your site. The more people you drive to your site the more people learn that you’re not all the serious about your business. It’s a lot harder to recover from the damage then to have prevented it in the first place.
Ugly Web Designs Cost Money
If your website want convert the site visitor into a customer then you’re wasting time and throwing money away. You’re going to find that it’s not easy to drive traffic to your site. And once you get the traffic coming in you’re going to find that you’re hosting company wants you to pay more for the bandwidth being used.
By the time you realize the problem it’ll be too late. You will no longer have the budget to get the design you should have gotten in the first place.
Think About This
If you’re able to send 2,000 visitors to your site every day and are able to convert one of those visitors into a customer at $500.00, then you are now making $500.00 per day.
If a redesign of that site allows you to make 2 sales per day, then you are now making $1,000.00 per day without doing anything differently then what you were doing before the redesign.
If your site is not making you money then you aren’t doing something right. And if you contact a web design company looking for the cheapest price then you’ll be better off holding on to your money.

How much would I pay to for a custom web design for a site like or better than http://www.siliconewristband.org ?
I want to pay for original custom web design work only – no templates.
Moreover, I don’t want to pay more than $25 a month for hosting and maintanance afterwards but I would like the same professional to do this.
To be perfectly clear, I would like a serious full time professional with a solid portfolio to do this. I need direct contact and personal attention. I have digital photos and brochures for the designer to draw from.
What would a serious professional web designer in Ontario charge for a job like this?
Please no referrals.

How much would the one time fee for the design work be?
I had a local studio offer to do this for $12,000 and $300 a month afterwards for hosting and maintenance. I am sure that adding two or three photos every month would not cost this much.
Why not get more quotes?
I doubt you hire anyone else with just one quote. The first quote you have looks a little high unless the $300 includes more than just hosting.
I would say $2250 Canadian for designing a static website of this genre and size from scratch – no templates – that is given you really would provide the photos and the text.
$25 a month for hosting and maintenance would be reasonable for the updates you describe but you could end up paying more depending on the uptime you demand and the traffic you use.
